[9-7-11 No comment, but see tetrahedron of comments. Well actually I will comment. While the numbers may not be what some may expect,(see Three Faces of Eve) the focus and targeted nature on schools may be a tantalizing stimulus for more: "Advocates for FAST have called for approximately $50 billion in upfront spending, with the hope that early investment would beget future ones as neighboring school districts petition their members of Congress for money of their own." ]
[9-8-11 Grand Slam to carry the model.
Pivoting the metaphor from personalities to the diamond, not to imply that there is any sexism in the sorting. Timing is noted in the lede reference in the last link on the prospects for the presidents speech. The Grand Slam is not as it seems, not necessarily personalities but aggregate hits. My original slam was against the Morning Brew that Joe Scorborough pours, but I had yet to hear Robinson swing. He hit it out of the park, while Obama has yet to come up to the plate in the ninth.]

Ironically(and indubitably) Perry is Right!
Pun intended:
"You know yesterday the president said I needed to watch what I say."
"I just want to respond back, if I may. Mr. President, actions speak louder than words."
"My actions as Governor are helping create jobs in this country."
"The President’s actions are killing jobs."
[My bold added for a bit more context. The parsing is tricky, but it spins like a Texas Two-Step.]
And the president should take his advice, Go Left, Dear Sir*.
While context in an anthema to the Right,
nuance and parsing are a bitter pill for them, and a better bill** for the Left.
By not going whole hog or shifting from recovery to reform too soon, the President is killing jobs.
But he is not the unitary executive that can just get her done.

Tea Party Down Grade
and the Undo- Everything House of Reprehensibles
(Note the counter-linkage or weaving of sources.)
Reading of the Day and relevant fn.
Simpson-Bowles and S&P Re: Revenue.
The fn. above discusses a narrative that is lacking in Obama's rhetoric. The actual recalcitrance of the Republican party, the lack of a filibuster proof congress, not to mention the media as we know it(Koch Brothers), argues more balanced narrative than Blame Obama. The Obama Inaugural was our calling.
(NFRY)
Candidate Obama was nuanced and President Obama is pragmatic and incremental, the message is clear.

Green Span on Degree of Certainty: the only thing certain is change, and that the Right won't.
I mean Greenspan: "this deficit problem that is out there is a lot larger than we calculated. the actual numbers employed by those calculating the deficits are based on a level of economic activity, which we are not acheiving." Rather than translate IMHO the Greenspan quote, there is FIXING NEWS(as opposed to breaking) as the President addresses the downgrade now. (Remarks by the President: and previous remarks)
(Note the counter-linkage or weaving of sources.)
Reading of the Day and relevant fn.
One great thing about Obama's primary victory is now we know that's not true. This is the modern Republican Party. It turns out they were the ones who adopted Malcolm X's slogan, "By any means necessary." As disgusted as I am with S&P's decision to downgrade U.S. debt, the ratings agency took the unusual step of calling out the GOP in its press release, predicting future fiscal peril "because the majority of Republicans in Congress continue to resist any measure that would raise revenues," Sen. John Kerry was right to call it the "Tea Party downgrade" on "Meet the Press" Sunday. They have now made clear they'll wreck the economy as long as they can wreck Obama's presidency. And we have no way to know that Clinton's history with right-wing saboteurs would have enabled her to fight more effectively.
Simpson-Bowles and S&P Re: Revenue.
Hennessey’s assessment of Simpson-Bowles is even more puzzling. As I’ve noted before, Simpson-Bowles raised about $2 trillion in new revenues and cut defense spending by about $800 billion. The plan Obama proposed to Boehner raises half as much revenue and, from what I’m told, includes about half as much in defense cuts. It’s hard to see how that qualifies as "to the left" of Simpson-Bowles.

The actual recalcitrance of the Republican party, the lack of a filibuster proof congress, not to mention the media as we know it(Koch Brothers), argues more balanced narrative than Blame Obama. Give an inch...
Take a footnote:
VOTE NO ON DEAL.If the original intent was a clean bill, this should fit the bill. If harming the economy for political purposes is the intent, then the Debt Deal is the proper balance. While I can understand the political purposes in light of the burden of accountability and compromise, it is a tough call to say, hold tough, but it is your call. My call is that it is not only the 14th Amendment but the Debt Ceiling law itself, which gives the President and Congress their respective powers, which only a no vote would enforce. So while I can understand that Sum Would Cheer: I must on principle urge a No Vote on kicking the can down the road for political purposes. UNLESS it has already been calculated that the obligations that the Treasury holds(f.n. 2) are already not a part of the debt ceiling picture.

Sum would cheer...
the* death of Keynesian Economics, but a super Congress? Compromise is the art of not making anyone truly happy. Not to mention metaphor happy, or blossom.
[8-1-11: Debt Deal[!]
OurFuture.org , The White House, Paul Krugman, AmericanProgress.org
Winner?
Obama(& Bane Or)

Loser?

and the economy.

[Re: The Table, with Andrea Mitchell, Chuck Todd(paraphrased)...those who oppose the deal will roar in primaries not in the general] that puts the sword of Damocles on the people and in their votes.]
[My sum mary: the sum will cheer...BULLY[!]
[And some will whine. EXTREME RHETORIC ALERT for link one of the previous three. While in all actuality, I can agree that people are dying, and there are forces alligned against the common good to blame, I cannot use the Hitler analogy that LaRouche utilizes, though the results do border on treason, it is for the people to decide not a determination that can be legally formed. Glass-Steagall is probably one solution, and the offensive PDF probably summarizes the deal accurately, and the only good thing that can come from this hyper-rhetoric is if it works, but it should not make too many people happy that it does. There is also something about the table which links what seems to be a common cause of both La Rouche and Tea Party supporters(at least of the more pragmatic and incremental Libertarian strain).]
[Process in context[!]? Right On!]
[Final Notes: Hall and Bashir 2B updated (alter or Bane).]

The Jig is Up?
Metaphors aside the Debt Ceiling "negotiations" may require a short-term vote.
[Cut, Cap and Balance: Cutting Jobs, Capping Responsibility, and Balancing on Disaster. That is a not only a non-starter it is a nation ender. Spending is not the problem, Congressional responsibility is, and we know which party. The House sets the budget, with the approval of the Senate and with only a veto threat by the President. A balanced budget amendment with a cap on percentage of GDP is a form of capping the mechanisms of government to get anything done.]
[The President addresses the nation.]
[7-26-11 Misledership: Cut Cap and Balance - The Whine and Teas
for the American P-ease-
Hook, line and sinker.]
[7-27-11: Reel Time*? Blank Check? Bounced check for previous Republican administrations(See Chart).]
[Respected Sources: Randi Rhodes, Lawrence O'Donnell. Ezra Klein. Norman Goldman (7-28). ]
[Disrespected Sources: Whiner of the House.]
[Debt Picture 101: or cut, cap and balance.]
* Lawrence O'Donnell, Howard Fineman, polls and results.
[7-28-11: Down Riggers and Reel Leders set the bait. There are apparently three options: something that will pass the senate without the presidents veto, a clean bill or no bill. And no bill (to mix metaphors) is a punch to the tackle box. Section 4 of the 14th Amendment(see bait) not only is the right solution, as the debt ceiling is probably not constitutional. It makes no sense to pass budgets that are not paid for, let alone put the present administration on the hook for earlier non-sense.]
[7-29 Thom Hartmann , Rerun O'Donnell- Nancy Pelosi and Grand Bargain: Leg 101.
Stephanie Miller: Leg 102., Debt 201. NG 7-29. N.G. Prophesied: Two weeks for John Boehner as Speaker, since he cannot control his people. I don't think they want to control their people, so he may remain. It leaves a bit of denial to the party, or would be a total association with them if they replaced him with someone who could.]
[7-30 I'm conflicted or caught in a net, is it deal or bounced check? If you can expect a deal why not a clean bill? How about a no bumber stickers or banners and slogans, pledge? But get a deal done or the president will have the biggest line item veto any Republican could wish for. Or invoke the 14th Amendment, impeach and MoveOn. Clean deal or no deal?]

Obama 2012
The appropriate follow up for Economics 2011
Netting it big with Bridge Poker.
Week old Last Word: It is not Republican checkers against Obama and N-dimensional chess, it is whatever you call the Republican bored games against Obama*** and his Bridge Poker*. That is my take, not Lawernce O'Donnell's.
[My guess is that whatever is voted on will be politically beneficial**, win or lose.]
*more than just the table games
** for Democrats
*** not much of a chess player myself, I think it is a bad metaphor. A bit more of a poker player and less of a bridge player, I did not know there was actually the game of Bridge Poker. But negotiations are one thing and politics is more the thing, so a bit of Go Fish might be thrown in. And if wishes were fishes we'd be fed up.
[Belated Happy Birthday to MSNBC!]
[Later in the day, apparently Speaker Boehner bails out or has taken the bait: Remarks by the President:

So they will come down here at 11:00 a.m. tomorrow. I expect them to have an answer in terms of how they intend to get this thing done over the course of the next week. The American people expect action. I continue to believe that a package that is balanced and actually has serious debt and deficit reduction is the right way to go. And the American people I think are fed up with political posturing and an inability for politicians to take responsible action as opposed to dodge their responsibilities.[Earlier Obama Town Hall]

Ravi Batra's Weapons of Mass Exploitation.(Economics For Beginners)
Is the United States broke?

Economics in One Lesson.*
(Austrian) Economics in One Lesson**
* actually a review of Economics in One Lesson, which includes a caution for those without "a significant amount of economics", they may risk "permanent neurological and ideological damage".***
** Austro-Libertarian Economics (Mises Project Video)
*** seriously [Stick to bold links to be safe: I don't know if it is just me, or my Economics 250 A&B, or my Marx, Nietzsche, Freud 374, but I am not sure I will risk a full read or view of Economics in One Lesson. But I will say, as Nietzche put it there is German thinking and there is Oriental thinking; linear and wholistic (not to put things in black and white). Then (I might say)there is Austrian thinking; not to cast aspersions of intent or geographical origins, but I will follow up with related Economics (and other)links that I feel are helpful.]
